A Brief History of HR, And a Tribute to Those He Served With in WWII. HR began experimenting and perfecting his chili, spaghetti and other southern foods recipes beginning as a young man in his 20's, then wrote them down for his family starting in 1957, a decade after his service as an Army enlisted man during WWII.  He did talk about preparing his southern cooking in the field for his buddies with whatever supplies he could scrounge up. HR fought ashore at Omaha Beach, France, on D-Day with Bradley's 1st Army .  He moved through France as a K9 Corps handler with his Wardog Bruce .  When they marched north from Paris to Belgium, sadly but heroically, Bruce was killed saving HR's life while defending a U.S. Field Headquarters from a night attack by elite enemy paratroopers. HR was then transferred to Patton's 3rd Army as a Combat Engineer .  Again, HR fought his way through the Battle of The Bulge , then went on to build the bridge at Remagen across the Rhine River into Germany to carry Allied Troops forward. We at Penn Outdoors are honored to remember and salute HR, those he served with, and all that have worn the United States Military Uniform, be it WWII veterans, or those who preceded him, and those honored Military Veterans and their families having served yet today!
